In 1985, Bart Jones arrived in Alexandria with no connections, just a vision, a passion for physical therapy, and a love for golf and running. Forty years later, he’s become a cornerstone of the community — both in healthcare and beyond.
Over the decades, Bart has touched countless lives, treating an estimated 14,000 new patients and approaching 150,000 patient visits. Yet, when reflecting on his career, it’s not the numbers that stand out most to him. It’s the stories.
“I love my patients, and it has been my honor to be a small part of their recovery journey. I love hearing their stories and learning about their lives and families,” Bart shared.
Despite his humility, Bart’s impact has been profound. He often says his clinical skills may not surpass those of many colleagues he admires, but what sets him apart is his ability to connect.
“I believe I have the skill of connecting with my patients and being a source of compassion, empathy, and effective communication. Communication, compassion, and empathy can play a huge role in patient recovery, not just your skills.”
That philosophy has shaped not only how Bart practices, but how he leads. He’s long believed that participation in the community is vital to building a thriving practice — a lesson he’s modeled and encouraged in every team member he’s worked with.
And what a team it’s been. Bart credits much of his success to the dedication of the PTs, OTs, PTAs, technicians, and front office staff he’s worked alongside.
“Their dedication and hard work has been inspiring to me and has been the primary driver in our success,” he said.
Four decades of care have flown by in what Bart describes as both “a flash” and “a lifetime.” He’s treated generations of families — children, parents, and now even grandchildren — while watching his colleagues build families of their own.
“To the point where I feel like they are a part of my family and I am a part of theirs,” he reflected.
While Bart is quick to say he’s “not done yet,” he’s also proud to see the next generation stepping into the profession with passion.
“I want them to realize that they spend a lot of time learning, and teaching, and helping patients in their recovery — and that they need to ‘own’ that and treat their work as a profession. Carry yourselves with pride and passion. Every patient encounter is an opportunity to make someone feel special and cared for.”
As Bart celebrates 40 years, one thing is clear: his journey has never just been about physical therapy. It’s been about connection, compassion, and community — the threads that have woven him into Alexandria’s story, and the legacy he continues to build every day.
